PPC - First entry in Marketing Lingo
Thursday, 15 February 2007

Since I've decided that what the world needs next is a good "dictionary" for marketing lingo, here we go with my first entry.

PPC - Pay Per Click - Near as I can tell, this is sort of like a count store only there are more agents in the middle.

Actually, it's pretty much self descriptive.

The short version. A person who wants to advertise something; i.e. a website, an affiliate program, etc.; pays for an advertisement on someone's website based on how many times the ad is clicked upon.

The long version. The location where the advertising is shown is often lined up by a third party, the Super agent; i.e. Google, Adbrite, etc. The advertiser pays the Super agent and the other agents that show the ad get their cut.

Many times the advertiser must bid the highest in order to get the Super agent to let him play the game. And, in all cases the Super agent gets first count.

Many times, you could be better off approaching the website where you'd like to display your ad directly. They may offer you a weekly, monthly or other flat rate or possible a PPC deal of their own. At least you only have one agent to outcount you then.

What We Need Is . . .
Wednesday, 07 February 2007

Looking at my email today, I decided that what we really need is a lingo dictionary for this midway.

OTO, PLR, WYSIWYG, JV, and a whole ton more of new words and acronyms are in every email those GURU guys send me.

What's it all about, Alfie?

Yep, I'm thinking we need a "IM Lingo" page (IM = Internet Marketing) or, maybe, in our case, IM = Interspace Midway, LOL!

Yeah, o.k., so I'm on it. Coming right up and so on.

The Internet - Year One
Tuesday, 03 December 2002

This is another older article I wrote. I'm putting it here because someone has been looking for it, according to my web stats. I really ought to write a new one called Year Five except I haven't learned all that much more than I knew in this one.

Well, anyway, here it is.

The Internet - Year One

Wow, I just realized I've been on the Internet for a year now! My how cyber-time flies.

It's been a full-tilt year and, some days, it seems I'm quite upside down! Upon reflection though, I really have learned a lot in this year. I'll share some of I've gleaned about the 'net.

  1. It's not the information super-highway that I thought it was. True, there is a ton of information but much of it does not come to you free or easily. You need to be a master of keywords to use the search engines efficiently. The public library is as good a knowledge base, if not better, when you consider that you can also access the 'net from there.
  2. Much of what you find on the 'net, you don't really need. Furthermore, if you download everything you find and sign up for all that is offered, you are asking for trouble. All those free programs that do much of nothing will eat up all your space on your hard drive to the point where your computer will get constipation. You will receive spam in direct proportion to all those times you gave up your email address for yet another freebie.
